Figure
skating - (2002)
2(2006) What
to look for in Figure Skating and how is it judged? Check out the colorful
IJS Handbook for a guide. Some
of the best figure skaters in the USA posed for portraits during the NBC/USOC
Promotional Photo Shoot in May of 2009. Top
ice dancing pair Meryl Davis and Charlie White met and started skating together
when they were 10 and have reached No. 1 in the world without leaving their suburban
Detroit backyards. For
U.S. Figure Skating, there's no need to send 30-somethings nearing the end
of their careers to the Olympic Games when 20-somethings with a future will do
just fine. Steady

skiing - (2002)
2(2006) Olympic
alpine athletes will be selected primarily from individual race finishes on
the 2009-10 Audi FIS Alpine World Cup. The top two athletes, by selection criteria,
have a guaranteed start right in that respective event. Athletes must be ranked
in the top 500 in the world on the FIS Points List to be eligible. In addition,
athletes in speed events must have a maximum of 120 FIS points. Lindsey
Vonn, who has hopes of winning up to five gold medals in Vancouver, crashed
during a training run last month in Leinz, Austria but her painfully bruised left
arm isn’t getting in the way. She won her third World Cup downhill of the season
in Haus im Ennstal, Austria. Lindsey
Vonn's appearance in this month's Sports illustrated, complete with cover
shot of the skier posed bent over, rolling down a mountain, has drawn fire from
critics as "sexualized.". The

- (2002) 1(2006)
Three
U.S. women finished in the top ten in the women’s bobsled World Cup competition.
Only two nations are granted three sleds in the women’s bobsled competition at
the Olympics, and the U.S. is currently the second ranked nation behind Germany. The
American men have not won an Olympic bobsled gold medal since Francis Tyler
led the four-man team to victory in 1948 at St. Moritz. Geoff Bodine says, "We
really feel like we have the equipment, the athletes to go up and win some gold
medals." From
Blocking Sled to Bobsled for Football Players - Nearly all converted football
players are bobsled pushers, who thrust the sled down the hill as fast as they
can at the start of the race before hopping in. Their frames are nearly uniform
- around 6 feet 2, 220 pounds. "We can’t get the real big guys," US
bobsled coach Bill Tavares said. "They just won’t fit in the sled." | |

1(2006) What
to expect - The United States has no competitors in women's ski cross, but
is likely to be very competitive in men's ski cross, fueled by two former U.S.
Alpine ski racers. Daron Rahlves is the most successful speed event skier in U.S.
history - he won 12 World Cup races and one world championship title. Even at
age 36, he is a legitimate threat to win in 2010. A four-time Olympian in
Alpine skiing (1992, 1994, 1998, 2002), 37-year-old Casey Puckett believes he
enters Vancouver with his best chance at an Olympic medal in his new sport. Puckett
was fifth at the 2009 World Championships and was the 2004 and 2007 X Games ski
cross champion. Photos
